Firts Year @ Campus

We are here to support the wellbeing of all our students. We want to make sure you have a successful, fulfilling and rewarding time both at University and in the future. We do this through empowering you to learn and grow; be socially fulfilled; feel more financially secure and know you are supported and cared for.

Being unpredictable, we know that University life has unique experiences as students transition from secondary school life in different ways.

At Ndejje University, we understand the challenges students face at university. For students or a parent or supporter of a student, it saves to know the flow of the year and understand what might be happening at the university and how to prepare accordingly.

This helps you to deal with the excitement, anxiety, nervousness and be positive about University life.

Let’s start our journey;

  • Get organised: buy and pack the essentials for university life. Figure out how you will be supported while at the university, away from home.
  • Remind yourself of domestic skills such as cooking, cleaning, shopping and laundry.
  • Talk through any worries you may have with your parents or someone you trust.
  • If you have health concerns, speak to our medical personnel to ensure prescriptions can remain up to date (students can register with the University Medical Centre for special medical services whilst away from home).
  • Search for accommodation / your new home before you settle for academic involvements.
  • Get organised; find your course timetable at your faculty office and set up a revision or study schedule.
  • Create a safe space in your new home to relax, socialize and study.
  • Create a sense of belonging; build up relationships. Get to know your fellow students by getting involved with volunteering, clubs and societies.
  • Have a budget, consider starting a focused budget for your first two weeks, the money you spend during freshers’ week can quickly add up. Budgeting advice is available from the office of the dean of students.
  • Homesickness is very common, remember to take care of yourself. Ensure you're getting enough sleep, drinking enough water and eating healthily.
  • Keep ‘to do-lists’ of all your deadlines.
  • Seek feedback about your academic work and learn from it. It takes time to adjust to higher education, it’s quite different from secondary school and there’s much more expectation of independent study (i.e. working at home, researching and reading).
  • If you are unable to meet a deadline due to extenuating circumstances, seek guidance from your faculty support office or a particular lecturer.
  • Going to university is an exciting time where you are likely to experience new friendships and relationships. Whilst you are studying, it is important that you take a positive and respectful approach to your sexual health.
  • Take advantage of the University sports and recreational facilities.
  • Stress from deadlines and upcoming exams is natural. Talk through any stress with friends, family, and your lecturers.
  • Feeling alone at times is completely normal, many other students feel the same. Keep channels of communication open with friends, family and your lecturers.
  • Remember to look out for your friends. If you see a friend struggling, direct them to our support services.
  • For all your queries, seek guidance from your faculty administrative office.
