Ndejje University soccer team popularly known as the Lions has afterall stormed Uganda’s top flight Azam Premier League after eleven years of waiting.
The last Big League away match for Ndejje Lions against Kamuli Town Council broke the camel’s back in a deadlock last Sunday at Kamuli Town Stadium.
The Kamuli match though ended goalless however broke the deadlock between Ndejje Lions and close contenders Paidha Black Angels who had tied in points on the table standing .
The Black Angels same day was stabbed 0-1 by Jinja Municipal Council Hippos to disengage from the Lions grip of top slot in the Elgon Group.
Overall Ndejje Lions topped Elgon Group with 40 points to storm the Azam Uganda Premier League followed by Paidha Black Stars 39 points and Kyetume 38 points.
Ndejje University Lions Head Coach, Raymond Komakech was overwhelmed and short of words by the victory.
“It was a hard earned victory. We corrected the few mistakes during the two –year campaign and it paid off with promotion to the top flight championship. Our main target in the Azam League will be to avoid relegation,” the technician said.
He plans to reinforce the newly promoted side with new players recruited from other clubs to be able to remain a force to reckon with in big time soccer against top clubs like KCCA and Vipers among others.
Ndejje University made its debut in First Division National League in 2007 and scooped third position on the league table.
The university side consequently joined Big League as m one of the pioneer clubs in 2010. It has twice featured in playoffs coming close to promotion to Azam Premier League in the seasons 2015/16 and 2016/17.
