Ndejje Elites retains volleyball title
Over 30 teams are roaring to compete in the 8 th Ndejje University Volleyball Open Championships due at Luwero Main Campus on March 7, 2020. Its usual tough Ndejje Open competition as the country’s top flight clubs battle to outdo one another at the two-day tournament. The competition has also attracted corporate, high schools and institutional teams competing in different categories.
The teams that have confirmed participation include clubs that have entered men and women teams – Sport-S, Nemo Stars, KAVC, KCCA, VCC, Nkumba, UCU, COBAP and Mulago while those that will field men only are OBB, KU, Sky, Police, Prisons, UPDF and Airforce. Thunder will meanwhile enter only the women side.
The schools entries include Kinawa, Ubuntu, Ndejje SS, Rubaga and Corporates: Centenary Bank, Ndejje University and BBS among others. Ndejje University women side, the Elites dominated the Ndejje Open Volleyball tournament that was last hosted on March 4, 2018 The Elites undergoing rejuvenation clinched two overall trophies in the club and institutional categories
Ndejje Elites walloped Sport -S 3-0 (25-16), (25-21), (25-12) to win the clubs title. Sport -S were the then defending champions. The Elites were equally spot-on in the institutions category thrashing Makerere University 3-1 in the final.
Much improved Ndejje University men’s side stopped KCCA 3-2(25-27, 25-21, 25-18, 22-25, 15-7) in the semis to book Nemo Stars for the final. The university side however lost 0-3 to Nemo in the final. Sky was the men club’s 2017 defending champions.
Meanwhile, Liyanzi College lifted the schools trophy after beating Ubuntu 2- 1 and Kibuli SS 2-1 in the round robin while Ubuntu settled in second position after defeating Kibuli SS 2-0. The Ndejje University 2017 Open attracted over 27 teams.
