Ndejje Now One-stop Renewable Energy Centre
Ndejje University and Uganda National Renewable energy and Energy Efficiency Alliance (UNREEEA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the establishment of a one-stop center renewable energy demonstration site at the Luwero Main Campus.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Kakembo Fredrick signed the MOU on behalf of Ndejje University while the Alliance Chairman Mr. Alexander Komakech Akena for UNREEEA in Kampala.
It is in this arrangement that the university as a member of the Biogas Efficient Technology wing that has distinguished itself as one of the leading universities in field of renewable energy was selected to host a national demonstration centre. Consequently, the centre will enable the general public and students to learn first hand about clean technologies for improved practices and also play a critical role in enabling adoption of cleaner usage if communities get to experience the technological works practically.
The demonstration centre will also be used as a platform for boosting applied research, development, capacity building and market awareness in the field of renewable energy technologies (solar energy, wind power and biomass) and energy efficiency in Uganda.
According to the MOU, the University will therefore provide an open door policy to the site facilities for all UNREEEA network members and the general public for the awareness purposes as a way of promoting renewable and energy efficiency in Uganda. The university will also avail space and facilities for free or a subsidized fee for UNREEEA member’s capacity building activities like training at the University’s Research Centre for renewable technology demonstration equipment, among other roles. UNREEEA on its part will establish the demonstration centre at the university and provide biogas laboratory, different stove types at the briquette workshop, solar-wind and biogas systems among other services.
