Bishop Hannington Mutebi

Ndejje University Consortium appointed Church of Uganda Anglican Bishop Dr. Hannington Mutebi Nsubuga Chancellor of the country’s oldest private university.

Rt. Reverend Dr. Mutebi who is the Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese, was installed Chancellor during the university’s 23rd Graduation Ceremony on December 17, 2021 at Luwero based Ndejje Main Campus.

Born in 1960, he marks the second Bishop to assume the Chancellor’s office since the inception of Ndejje University in 1992.

The Chancellor, Bishop Mutebi is the titular head of the university, according to the University Charter, presides over all ceremonial assemblies of the university and confers degrees, diplomas, certificates, titles and distinctions of the university.

He also performs an overall supervisory role over the university affairs during his four-year term of office as provided by the charter administrative instruments.

The university is owned by a consortium of six dioceses which include: Luwero Diocese, Mityana Diocese, West Buganda Diocese, Central Buganda Diocese, Mukono Diocese and Namirembe Diocese.

Education

He had his rudimentary education in Uganda and later Studied in West Germany in 1983-84. He pursued initial Theological education at Uganda Martyrs’ Seminary, Namugongo in 1986 before proceeding to Daystar University, Nairobi and ultimately to Trinity School for Ministry at Ambridge, Pennsylvania, for his Doctoral studies .

Pastoral Work:

He has since 1981 served several churches in Uganda.

1986: Joined Uganda Martyrs Seminary, Namugongo
1989: Posted to St Luke Kibuye as Deacon.
1989-91: Posted to Bunamwaya Church of Uganda
1992-1995: Vicar St. Paul, Namirembe
2005: Posted as Vicar at St Stephen, Kisugu
2008: Appointed Archdeacon for South Archdeaconry of Kampala
2008: Trinity School for Ministry Ambriedge Pennsylvania (USA)
2011: Appointed as Provost and posted to All Saints until elevation.

2014: Elevated to Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese
