The Influence of Knowledge. Attitudes and Practices on Youth Unemployment in Uganda: A Case of Selected Youth in Kyengera Trading Centre, Wakiso District.


ABSTRACT:
The main aim of this study was to examine how knowledge, practices and attitudes affect youth unemployment in Kyengera Trading Centre in Wakiso District. The objectives were;
To find out the effect of knowledge, practices and Attitudes on youth unemployment in Kyengera trading Centre.
The study adopted a cross-sectional survey design with both qualitative and quantitative approaches to gain a deeper understanding for the influence of knowledge, Attitudes and practices on youth unemployment in Kyengera trading Centre.
The study population was 290 out of which a sample of 165 was derived. Questionnaires and interviews were used to gather data from the respondents.
The study revealed correlation between knowledge and youth unemployment r= -0.623, the significant value is 0.000, attitudes and youth unemployment r=0.459, the significant value is 0.000, and practices and youth unemployment r=0.742, the significant value is 0.00.
In conclusion, according to the findings, this is a prime prerequisite for overcoming youth unemployment. The study concludes that all the dimension’s knowledge, attitudes and practices affect youth unemployment.
It is recommended that youth skilling should be emphasized and the need to continuously train and upgrade the youth skills to be able to mobilize resources and create jobs.
