Vice Chancellor

Rev. Canon Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja PhD (University of Edinburgh), MTh (University of Edinburgh), MA (Nottingham University), BD and Dip(ed) (MakerereUniversity).  She is a Clergy woman in the Church of Uganda, where she has served for 29 years.

She is married to Rev. Canon Moses Banja and is a mother of three children. She is Associate professor of African Christianity, is Vice Chancellor Ndejje University (1st January 2023).

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

served as Dean School of Education Uganda Christian University (August 2021-date).   Olivia also serves as Board Member Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, Member of the Committee of Technical Experts Uganda AIDS Commission, BoardMember of the Uganda Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund, Board Member of Uganda Joint Christian Council Programmes Committee, Member of World Council of Churches Joint Working Committee, Member of the Church of Uganda Theological Commission, and   Director of Abimanyi Child Ministries in Mukono.   She also served as Director of Teaching and Learning at Uganda Christian University 2014 -2021), Member of the UCU Research Ethics Committee from July 2019 –May 2022), member of Uganda Christian University Senate Evaluation Committee for Colleges and Campus (2014 -2021), Board Chairperson of The Bible Society of Uganda July 2015-2019, Vice Chairperson The Bible Society of Uganda 2013- July 2015. 2008 to 2014. Olivia served as Dean Bishop Tucker School of Divinity and Theology at Uganda Christian University.  During that time she taught and mentored both male and female students training for ministry; and faithfully led a team of theologians in that School.  Currently Olivia also serves as the Chairperson of Clergy women in the Church of Uganda, an office which provides her opportunity to mentor young women in ministry and inspire other women leaders in the church to serve faithfully and to build a church for all people of God.  Olivia researches and lectures in African Christianity, African Religions, Theology and Gender and Theology and Culture.

She has written and published articles in books and journals and co-edited books.
