Ndejje University has reaffirmed its commitment to community engagement and skills development through a high-impact outreach program at Ssese Farm Institute in Kalangala District, donating 20 desktop computers for strengthening digital learning.
Led by the Directorate of Information Communication and Technology Support (DICTS), the initiative united leaders from the church, academia, and the local community to advance youth empowerment through education and technology.
Speaking at the handover on behalf of University Management, Charlene Mugalula, Communications Officer at Ndejje University, stressed that the donation represents more than hardware. The computers symbolize opportunity, partnership, and shared investment in students’ futures.
“Today isn’t just about 20 desktop computers. It’s about the future we’re building together,” she said, conveying greetings from Vice Chancellor Rev. Canon Prof. Olivia Nassaka Banja. “These tools open doors to knowledge, innovation, and global connection. Digital skills are no longer optional—they’re essential.”
Ssese Farm Institute Principal Isa Mwebasa expressed deep gratitude for the timely support, noting that the institute’s 20 existing computers had to serve over 300 students. This shortage meant ICT exams previously took up to three days to administer.
“We were expecting just five computers, but Ndejje University has given us 20. This will transform our operations—ICT exams that took three days can now be completed in one,” he said.
As an alumnus of Ndejje University, Mwebasa also invited deeper collaboration, welcoming Ndejje students and lecturers for academic placements and training programs. He affirmed his confidence in the University’s capacity to support the Institute’s growth.
DICTS Team Lead Allan Walusimbi described the initiative as planting a seed for the future. “It’s not because we have much, but because we seek to serve God’s purpose. We believe that in giving, we receive,” he noted.
Highlighting academic pathways, Martin Ashaba from the Marketing Department encouraged students to consider further studies at Ndejje University. He noted that the University offers Diplomas in Animal Production and Extension, and Sustainable Agriculture and Extension, with Bachelor’s-level progression available at the Main Campus in Luwero. Admissions for the August intake are ongoing.
Rev. Ssazi Amon, Head of Ssese Archdeaconry, underscored the spiritual significance of the outreach. Referencing John 13:12–15, he urged students to steward the opportunity well and pay it forward.
“God has done something for you. You are called to bless others. Use these computers effectively and let this opportunity transform not only your lives but also your communities,” he said.
The outreach reflects Ndejje University’s mission of holistic education, community service, and strategic partnership. By investing in digital infrastructure and fostering collaboration, the University continues to equip learners with critical skills for a fast-changing world.
