Abstract
The Fourth Industrial Revolution is revolutionizing industries around the world due to the integration of robotics engineering technologies in industries like agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, transport, construction, energy and education. Though developed countries have succeeded in robotics engineering system adoption, Uganda and other Sub-Saharan African countries are at premature stages of adopting robotics engineering systems. This paper investigates the current status and trends in the adoption of robotics engineering systems in Uganda’s economic sectors. Qualitative research approach through document analysis was used in reviewing articles published in journals, policies issued by governments, reports and publications by organizations such as International Federation of Robotics, World Bank, Food and Agriculture Organization, International Energy Agency and World Health Organization. It has been found out that there is a surge in robotics adoption in Uganda especially in agriculture, health care, renewable energy, manufacturing and education. However, adoption is still hindered by poor infrastructure, inadequate finances, lack of professionalism, poor research and innovation and inadequate implementation of policies. This study has developed a conceptual model that identifies technological readiness, infrastructural development, human resource and appropriate policies as key enablers for robotics adoption and competitive advantage..
