The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication under the Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts at Ndejje University honored and awarded outstanding radio and television personalities in a remarkable celebration of World Radio Day. The event, held on February 13, 2025, aligned with this year’s theme: “Radio and Climate Change”, emphasizing the crucial role of radio in climate advocacy and awareness.
Opening Address by Dr. PrimRose Nakazibwe
The program commenced with an insightful speech from Dr. PrimRose Nakazibwe, the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts. She shared a personal narrative of how radio shaped her upbringing, recalling how she and her mother, a teacher, would always tune in to stay updated on current affairs. Reflecting on the evolving media landscape, she noted that while radio remains a vital tool for climate change advocacy, it now faces the challenge of competing with numerous emerging media platforms.

The event was graced by notable media personalities, including the Keynote Speaker, Ms. Christine Mawadri from NRG, and the Chief Guest, Mr. Moses Watasa, Commissioner at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance (@MoICT_Ug). Both speakers underscored the significance of radio as a powerful medium of communication, particularly in fostering awareness and action towards climate change.
Mr. Watasa elaborated on the importance of leveraging radio to educate and mobilize communities, ensuring that climate change conversations reach every corner of the country. He applauded the efforts of journalists and broadcasters who use their platforms to drive impactful discussions on environmental sustainability.
