Ndejje University takes immense pride in the election of Eng. Dr. Henry Ntale Kayondo, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, as the Interim Chairperson of the newly formed Consortium of University Engineering Deans in Uganda (CUED-U).
The formation of CUED-U marks a significant step forward for engineering education in Uganda. Though the name highlights Deans, the Consortium effectively represents the broader interests and goals of engineering faculties across both public and private universities. For the first time, academic leaders responsible for shaping the future of engineering training in Uganda convened in one space — a remarkable and energizing opportunity for reflection, learning, and forward planning.
During its inaugural meeting, CUED-U members engaged in in-depth discussions focused on strengthening engineering education and aligning academic training with professional standards. A key resolution was the commitment to work closely with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) — the regulatory authority overseeing the engineering profession in Uganda. This collaboration aims to ensure that the training provided at university level remains responsive to the needs of the industry and evolves alongside emerging professional expectations. As Eng. Dr. Kayondo observed, “It is both natural and fitting that our academic operations align with the standards of the profession. Where differences arise, they must be resolved through open dialogue and shared purpose.”
Eng. Dr. Kayondo’s election as Interim Chairperson is a meaningful recognition of both his leadership and the growing impact of Ndejje University’s Faculty of Engineering on the national stage. He expressed humility and gratitude, noting that being entrusted with this leadership role reflects not only personal confidence in his stewardship, but also national acknowledgment of Ndejje University’s contribution to engineering education. “That a young private university like Ndejje has been given this responsibility is remarkable. I view it as a sign of trust in our institution, our faculty, and our mission,” he stated.
Supporting him in the interim leadership of CUED-U are the Deputy Dean from Soroti University (serving as Vice Chairperson), alongside the Deans of Engineering from Mbarara University of Science and Technology and Muni University’s Technoscience Department.
This development affirms Ndejje University’s continued commitment to academic excellence, national service, and innovation in engineering education. As Eng. Dr. Kayondo emphasized, the Faculty of Engineering remains dedicated to carrying this responsibility forward with the seriousness and innovation that have long defined its character.
