Ndejje University academic staff are currently participating in a two-day Pedagogy Training held under the theme “Assessment and Evaluation in higher institutions of learning.”
In her opening remarks, the Academic Registrar, Dr. Mary Wanda, emphasized that education is evolving at a tremendous speed. With curriculum changes and learners increasingly exposed to gadgets and the internet, lecturers must continuously adapt to remain relevant—not only to the University but also to themselves as professionals. She noted that educators must stay “in shape” to effectively serve the new generation of learners joining the University next year.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic Affairs (DVC-AA), whose speech was delivered by the University Secretary, Canon Dr. Charles Kahigiriza, appreciated the presence of staff and acknowledged that although he is often engaged in administrative duties, he was pleased to represent the DVC at this important training.
In his remarks, he:
Thanked the Academic Registrar and the Faculty of Education and Humanties lead by Dr.Primrose Nakazibwe for organizing the training
Highlighted that such trainings elevate teaching skills and enhance student outcomes
Noted that effective pedagogy boosts lecturers’ confidence and competence
Emphasized that competence-based learning focuses on mastery of skills rather than traditional passive learning
Stressed the importance of preparing students for the job market
Encouraged teaching approaches that promote critical thinking over outdated learning methods
The training also addressed key challenges in implementing competence-based education and explored practical ways to improve student progress through skills mastery.
