Ndejje University has continued its efforts to promote higher education and raise awareness about its academic programmes through a career guidance visit to Masaka Secondary School, where the team engaged students preparing to complete their Advanced Level studies.
The school currently has approximately 980 Senior Six students, making it an important institution for university outreach and career guidance. The visit provided an opportunity to interact with the students, understand their perceptions of Ndejje University and introduce them to the diverse academic opportunities available at the institution.
Broadening Students’ Understanding of Ndejje University
During the engagement, students were asked what they knew about Ndejje University. Among the first responses were its strong Christian values and the perception that it is primarily a science university.
This feedback provided a valuable starting point for the team to broaden the students’ understanding of the University’s academic offerings. The team highlighted that, beyond science and technology programmes, Ndejje University also offers a wide range of courses in Education, Humanities, Law and Business.
The engagement was an opportunity to demonstrate the diversity of programmes available and encourage students to explore courses that align with their interests, abilities and future career aspirations.
Using Digital Content to Enhance Engagement
Given the large number of students, video presentations played an important role in communicating the University’s message. The videos captured the attention of students across the audience, including those seated at the back, and provided a visual introduction to the University and its academic environment.
The experience demonstrated the value of combining direct engagement with digital content when conducting career guidance activities, particularly in schools with large student populations.
Strengthening University Outreach
One of the key lessons from the visit was the importance of reaching students in upcountry schools as they prepare to make decisions about their higher education. Schools with large Senior Six populations present valuable opportunities for universities to engage prospective students at a critical point in their academic journey.
Going forward, there is a need for more staff members to participate in university marketing and outreach activities. A coordinated effort involving different departments and university representatives would help strengthen Ndejje University’s visibility, communicate its academic strengths and reach more prospective students.
The experience at Masaka Secondary School reinforces the importance of proactive school engagement, effective communication and the use of digital media in connecting students with higher education opportunities.
Through continued outreach to schools across the country, Ndejje University can help learners make informed decisions about their future while expanding awareness of the programmes and opportunities available at the University.
