Ndejje University Launches eLearning Training of Trainers Workshop: A Step Towards Enhanced Digital Education

28th August 2024, Lubaga, Kampala – In a significant move towards strengthening digital education, Ndejje University today held a comprehensive Training of Trainers workshop at its Graduate School in Lubaga. The workshop marks a crucial phase in the rollout of the university’s newly updated Learning Management System (LMS), aimed at enhancing the quality and reach of eLearning across all departments and faculties.

The event drew participation from key university stakeholders, including the Director of Quality Assurance, Mr. Amos Gitta, and his team, who are leading efforts to ensure that the University’s eLearning offerings meet the highest standards. Mr. Gitta emphasized the importance of maintaining rigorous quality control as the University transitions more deeply into digital education, stating, “Our commitment to quality in eLearning is unwavering. This training is a vital step in equipping our academic staff with the skills they need to deliver exceptional online education.”

Supporting the initiative, the Director for ICT Support, Eng. Isaac Kasana, alongside the AIS Team led by ARG Team Leader Allan Walusimbi, were on hand to oversee the capacity-building efforts. Eng. Kasana highlighted the strategic importance of this training, noting that “The integration of advanced digital tools in our educational framework is not just about staying current; it’s about ensuring our students receive an education that prepares them for a rapidly evolving world.”

The workshop was facilitated by Edwin Barugaba, whose expertise in eLearning guided the attendees through the intricacies of the new LMS. His sessions focused on practical implementation strategies, ensuring that faculty members are well-prepared to utilize the system effectively in their respective courses. “This is more than just a technical upgrade,” Barugaba remarked. “It’s about transforming how we teach and learn, making education more accessible, flexible, and engaging.”

The Training of Trainers workshop is the first in a series of initiatives aimed at embedding the new LMS into the fabric of Ndejje University’s academic programs. Faculty members who participated in the workshop will, in turn, train their colleagues, ensuring that the entire teaching staff is proficient in the use of the new system.

As the university moves forward with this ambitious digital transformation, the benefits are expected to be far-reaching. The new LMS will not only enhance the delivery of course content but also provide students with more interactive and personalized learning experiences.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Hanninton Mutebi, the assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese became the University Chancellor on 17th December, 2021. Dr. Frederick Kakembo, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ndejje University is a professional administrator and researcher. Dr. Frederick Kakembo obtained a Bachelors degree in Arts with Education at Makerere University. He did graduate studies leading to Master of Education degree also at Makerere University. Dr. Frederick Kakembo did graduate studies and attained a PhD in Community Education & Training at University Of Pretoria, and a member of Brown University Alumni, USA. Dr. Frederick Kakembo the Deputy Vice Chancellor Ndejje University has served in different roles including; Reviewing the HIV/AIDS Toolkit for Higher Education Institutions in Africa and recommended appropriate online course delivery; Consultancy in a project entitled “Scaling up HIV prevention in Teso sub-region through a Civil Society Partnership with Primary and Secondary schools”; Initiated Partnership between Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC)
